Electric post collapses, injures 2 in Tondo

A n elderly man and a tricycle driver were injured when a concrete electric post collapsed in Barangay 82, Tondo, Manila on Saturday afternoon, April 30.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victims as Julius Mendiola, 23, a tricycle driver; and Eliseo Dimasangal, 74.

According to the initial investigation, the post located at the corner of F. Varona and Kapalungan Streets collapsed and fell on three tricycles and a motorcycle at around 2:30 p.m..

A Facebook video posted by Pjong Laderio shows the debris of the fallen post occupying the road and electric wires dangling over the street.

Residents are seen carrying the victims to safety.

Mendiola sustained an injury on his legs, while Dimasangal suffered a head injury. They were both rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Members of the Don Bosco Police Station and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded to the incident and cordoned off the area.

Personnel of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) also arrived.

Police are still investigating the incident that caused a power interruption in the area.
