Vice President Leni Robredo said the water supply problem in the Philippines is expected to get worse, so new sources must be identified.

Recognizing this looming problem, Robredo said, if elected, she will prioritize water resource management, including finding new sources of water.
"Gusto ko lang i-emphasize, malaki na yung problema natin ngayon sa tubig, lalong lalaki pa (I just want to emphasize that our current problem in water supply is already huge, and it might get worse)," the presidential candidate said during the second Pilipinas Presidential Debates 2022 organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday, April 3.
The Vice President further said that this was actually the reason why water resource management and finding new water sources are among her priority infrastructure projects.
"Kaya nung nilatag namin yung aming programa, isa sa mga priority infrastructure projects natin na talagang water resource management saka paghanap talaga ng new sources of water (When we bared our programs, one of our priority infrastructure projects is water resource management and the search for new sources of water)," Robredo said.
The aspiring president also said that there are existing studies now that can help address the country's growing water supply problem.
She stressed that these studies need to be financed immediately to prevent the water problem from getting worse, adding that this will be among her priorities if elected.
"Meron na po ngayong mga existing na mga studies. Halimbawa meron nang existing na study na ina-identify na niya yung malalaking mga rivers natin na dun pwedeng mag-source ng tubig (There are already existing studies. For example, there is an existing study identifying big rivers that can be sources of water)," Robredo said.
"Kailangan na lang talagang pondohan kaya ito po magiging priority natin ito (We only need to fund this and this will be our priority)," Robredo added.
