Poll official to propose creation of task force Kontra Fake News

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner George Garcia wants a task force against fake news.

He said he will propose to the Comelec en Banc this week the creation of such task force.

"I will personally convince the Commission en Banc next week to create a task force against fake news," Garcia said in an online forum Sunday, April 3.

"This is because there are a lot of information in the social media saying that the election is already over, that ballots have already been shaded, and that votes have been cast already," he added.

"Anything that would undermine the integrity of the electoral process, we need to do something about it," said Garcia.

Last week, the Comelec also formed a task force on vote buying.

The Task Force Kontra Bigay is composed of the Comelec, Department of Justice (DOJ), Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), Philippine Infotmation Agency (PIA), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
