Aranáz presents perfect summertime accessories through 'Weave Play' collection

Founder and designer Amina Aranaz Alunan shares the story of the brand’s spring-summer 2022 line

Weaving is among the artisanal works that truly champion the Filipino story. Everything is done by hand, from preparing the materials to the intricate braiding process, creating a true work of art that speaks of what the Philippine style is. For the season, homegrown brand Aranáz continues its mission of propagating just that through its latest accessories line that is all about Filipino handicrafts.

Dubbed “Weave Play,” the brand’s collection presents an exploration of various woven techniques and natural materials interpreted in sophisticated silhouettes. Bended rattan, crocheted raffia, braided woven panels, and an array of intertwined leather comprise the building blocks of this season's pieces.

“Because this is a collection that we also export globally, we worked on this around April-May 2021 in time for the market weeks of the global fashion calendar,” Aranáz’s founder and designer Amina Aranaz Alunan tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “This is the second main collection that we created during the pandemic. Admittedly, it is challenging because of the various lockdowns and unpredictability of the markets.”

With her accessories styled with fashion designer Charina Sarte’s clothes, Aranáz brings to the Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival 13 runway perfect summertime looks that are chic invitations to relive the joy of traveling and rediscover what a tropical beauty the country is. One of her top pieces is Punto Hat crafted from buntal straw with wood bead tassels for flair. Another is the Curba, an elegant piece composed of hand-bent rattan and a tnalak pouch. And providing fun ways to add color and texture to a white linen look are the Lagrima and Mezcla handbags.

“It has always been to showcase the Filipino story through fashion—the leisurely spirit, the heart in handmade,” the designer muses.
