Mayor Sara's spox deflects Pangilinan's debate challenge, absentee jabs
Following vice presidential candidate Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan’s debate challenge to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Duterte’s spokesperson has issued a statement seemingly deflecting the senator’s dare, citing Duterte’s ground campaign.

“Since the beginning, Mayor Inday Sara Duterte has been in the frontlines of this campaign, giving the people a direct link to her person, her plans, and past performance that make her the most qualified Vice President for our country,” said Duterte spokesperson and Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco in a Facebook statement on Friday night, April 29.
“As every single one of the surveys have shown, Mayor Sara’s formidable lead continues to grow because the people clearly prefer her positive, unifying, and performance-based approach to the campaign,” Frasco added.
This, after Pangilinan challenged Duterte and her partner UniTeam presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to show up to presidential debates on April 29.
“Madalas ang mga hindi nagpapakita ay may mga itinatago. Mayroon kayang itinatago ang kampo ng Marcos-Duterte? Patunayan niyong wala (Those who don’t show up often are hiding something. Is the camp of Marcos-Duterte hiding something? Prove that you’re not hiding anything),” Pangilinan said.

Pangilinan’s presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo similarly issued a challenge to the consistent debate absentees of the UniTeam alliance, specifically, Marcos Jr.
Marcos's spokesperson rejected the challenge on his behalf.

Marcos Jr. and Duterte have drawn heavy flak for not attending presidential debates; both those hosted by media entities and those hosted by the Commission on Elections.
While Marcos Jr. previously attended a debate hosted by the Sonshine Media Network International last February, Duterte has not attended any debate.
Pangilinan and rival vice presidential candidate Walden Bello have both slammed the Marcos-Duterte alliance for their absenteeism.
