ITCZ to bring rains over parts of Mindanao; fair weather expected across the rest of PH

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ)—a region where winds from the northeast and southeast converge that triggers rain showers and thunderstorms—will prevail over Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, April 29.
PAGASA warned those in these parts of Mindanao to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides because of the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to experience fair weather due to partly cloudy to cloudy conditions.
In its extended weather outlook for key areas from April 27 to 30, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 35-36 degrees Celsius (℃) in Metro Manila, 36℃ in Tuguegarao City, 25℃ in Baguio City, 33℃ in Tagaytay City, 30-31℃ in Puerto Princesa City, 31-33℃ in Metro Cebu, 31-32℃ in Metro Davao, and 31-33℃ in Zamboanga City.
PAGASA, however, said there remains a possibility of afternoon or evening rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
It advised the public to stay vigilant during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and gusty winds that usually last up to two hours, as these may trigger flash floods or landslides.
In the PAGASA’s weekly weather outlook issued on Friday, the extreme northern Luzon and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southward migration of the shear line and the oscillation of the ITCZ by Monday, May 2.
By Tuesday, May 2, the entire archipelago will experience hot and humid weather apart from isolated afternoon or evening rain showers and thunderstorms.
