'Hunger Games' prequel film to be released in 2023

'In 2023, the world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake'

Tributes, be prepared as we are going back to Panem in 2023. The much-awaited film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ 2020 novel, “Hunger Games Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” will be released on Nov. 17, 2023. This announcement was made by entertainment company Lionsgate during CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

According to reports, CinemaCin-goers saw a brief teaser of the upcoming film, presenting an icy scene that later on revealed a bird and a snake. “In 2023, the world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake,” the clip states.

The “Hunger Games Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” novel is set decades before the events of the “Hunger Games” trilogy, which centered on Katniss Everdeen, a volunteer tribute from District 12 of the fictional Panem. In the prequel novel, readers get to discover the story of young Coriolanus Snow.

Apart from the clip, Lionsgate also shared the synopsis for the forthcoming film, which reads: “In this return to The Hunger Games, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.”

Francis Lawrence is leading the movie adaptation as the director with Michael Arndt writing the script, as per Variety. While actors who will be portraying Snow, Gray, and other characters from the novel are still being kept under wraps.
