PBA extends draft application deadline to May 7

Players who have yet to enter their names for the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft will now be given until May 7 to submit their applications.

The league made the announcement Thursday, April 28, adding five more days to the initial deadline for those interested to take part in the annual proceedings.

No detailed explanation was made as to why the extension was made, but it is assumed that the PBA would like to give collegiate players, particularly from the UAAP, to take part in the draft.

UAAP prohibits players from applying for the draft while in the middle of the season, but the league’s elimination round is set to end on May 1, with Final Four action slated to begin next week.

One of the players from the UAAP who is projected to take part in the draft is La Salle’s versatile big man Justine Baltazar.

PBA is requiring homegrown applicants to submit a copy of their birth certificates while a Philippine passport will now be the only requirement for Fil-foreign cagers.

Previously, the league required Fil-foreigners to also submit a certification from the Bureau of Immigration and affirmation from the Department of Justice.

PBA 3x3 players Brandon Rosser and Encho Serrano are among the notable names who have filed for the draft set May 15 at Robinsons Place Manila.
