Palace grieves for casualties in Bohol bridge collapse

Malacañang expressed its condolences to the loved ones of those who died following the collapse of the old Clarin Bridge over the Loboc River in Loay, Bohol, on April 27.

In a statement, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the Palace is also praying for the recovery of those injured in the incident.

"We express our condolences to the families of the victims who perished with the collapse of a bridge in Loay town in Bohol. We likewise pray for the swift recovery of those who got injured," he said Thursday, April 28.

"Authorities are currently conducting an investigation even as we assure everyone, especially affected residents and communities, of government assistance," he added.

At least four people were killed, while 15 others were injured when the bridge collapsed as vehicles passed it at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The bridge was damaged in an earthquake in 2013 but was still being used by motorists while the construction of a new bridge beside it is ongoing.

Initial reports from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that overloading may have caused the bridge to collapse.
