'Huwag kayong magpasindak!': Bong Go reminds Filipinos to shun May 2022 bets who bribe, coerce voters
As the May 9, 2022 elections draw near, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go reminded Filipinos to protect the sanctity of the ballot by taking a firm stand against unscrupulous candidates who coerce voters or try to buy their votes.
“Huwag kayong magpapasindak! Huwag kayong magpapadala sa mga pananakot at panunuhol para lang iboto ang mga lider na hindi naman ninyo gusto at hindi kumakatawan sa interes ng higit na nakararami (Don’t be pressured! Don’t give in to threats and bribery when you vote for leaders you don’t even like and do not represent the interest of the majority),” Go appealed in a statement.
“Patuloy tayong maging mapagmatyag sa mga susunod na linggo at hanggang sa mismong araw ng halalan (Let’s continue to be vigilant in the next weeks to come until the day of the election itself),” Go urged.
The senator echoed President Duterte’s call for orderly, fair and credible elections to ensure that the results of the polls are truly reflective of the Filipino people’s will. Duterte earlier vowed not to let terrorism and other illegal activities to disrupt the May 9 elections.
“Tandaan po natin na ang ating boto ay sagrado, at sariling desisyon natin kung sino ang gusto nating iboto na sa palagay natin ay karapat-dapat sa posisyong kanilang tinatakbuhan (Let us rememebr that our votes are sacred and it should be our personal decision to choose whom we believe is the right candidate who should win in the position they are running for),” he stressed.
Go, who earlier ran for president but later on withdrew his candidacy, said he too aspires for a clean, peaceful and ordelry elections.
He said he is also hoping that the results of the elections would be fair and fully reflects the will of the people.
“Bilang inyong senador, may sinumpaan akong tungkulin na dapat laging manaig ang layunin ng ating mga batas. Kaya kaisa ako ng Pangulo sa pagtiyak na maayos ang pagdaraos ng halalan. Hindi dapat magkaroon ng mga pananakot at karahasan (As a senator, I made a promise to fulfill the purpose of our laws. That is why, I join the President in making sure that the upcoming elections would be orderly. Violence and threats should not happen),” he said.
“Ang isang tapat at malinis na halalan na ginanap nang ligtas at may kalayaan ay resulta ng tunay na demokrasya na sumasalamin sa damdamin ng sambayanan (a truthful and clean elections that was done with freedom reflects true democracy and the will of the people),” he reiterated.
