Comelec: Hackers cannot manipulate 2022 polls results

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday, April 28, assured voters that hackers cannot manipulate the results of the upcoming elections, saying the system utilized by the poll body is secured and nobody can hack into it.

Recently, three alleged hackers who claimed that they can rig the results of the elections in exchange for money were arrested by authorities. They have been asking money from candidates, vowing them of a sure victory in the polls.

During a press conference, Comelec Commissioner Marlon S. Casquejo dismissed such claims by hackers by saying that they are just scamming candidates.

“Well, kahit ano pang gawin nila (whatever they do), they cannot manipulate the results of the elections,” he said.

“That is how secured our system when it comes to our elections,” the poll commissioner added.

According to him, the supposed attempts to obtain data from Comelec employees is “useless.”

He stressed that the three individuals recently nabbed were just “scammers.”

“Meaning they are pretending to know the system, pretending they can hack the system when in fact, hindi nila kayang gawin ‘yun (they cannot execute that),” Casquejo said.

“Kahit sino hindi kayang gawin ‘yun (Nobody can do that).”

On Thursday, April 28, Usec. Cezar O. Mancao II, DICT’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) chief, said the three hackers have obtained information about voters such as “their voting precincts and if they are still active.”

Mancao said the information gained by the hackers are useless as they still cannot hack into the system of Comelec.

Earlier, he even noted that the system being used by the Comelec utilizes many secured firewalls, multilevel access, and encryptions
