Comelec asks Pres. Duterte to declare May 9 as special non-working holiday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has signed a resolution asking President Duterte to declare Election Day, May 9, as special non-working holiday, Comelec Chairperson Saidamen B. Pangarungan announced on Thursday, April 28.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10784, the poll body requested President Duterte to declare May 9, 2022 as a special non-working holiday to “afford the registered voters the fullest opportunity to participate in the said election and exercise their right to vote.”
“he Commission on Elections, by virtue of the powers vested in it by the Constitution, the Omnibus Election Code, and other election laws, RESOLVED, as it hereby RESOLVES, to request His Excellency President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to declare May 9, 2022, as a special non working holiday all throughout the country in connection with the National and Local Elections,” it further stated.
Meanwhile, netizens on Facebook and Twitter said May 10 should also be declared as a special non-working holdiday.
Some netizens said they need time to travel to their provinces to cast their vote and time to return to Metro Manila to get back to work.
The resolution was promulgated on April 27, 2022.
It was signed by Pangarungan and all the six current commissioners of the Comelec.
