DICT exec tells bets: Don't believe groups claiming they can hack into Comelec's system

Following the arrest of three alleged hackers promising candidates of a sure win in the upcoming polls, an official of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Wednesday, April 27, warned candidates of such rampant scams during the election season.

Undersecretary Cezar O. Mancao II, DICT’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) chief, said candidates must not give money to such groups claiming they can rig the elections.

He noted that the system being used by the Commission of Elections (Comelec) utilizes many secured firewalls, multilevel access, and encryptions.

“That’s why don’t believe such groups if they claim that they can rig the polls and all you have to do is pay them. Their group will just scam you,” he said in Filipino during a virtual briefing.

He noted that the poll body is still in total control of the upcoming elections.

When asked for the poll body’s reaction to the arrest on Tuesday, April 26, Comelec Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia said that such groups are all over the country, offering candidates and political parties a sure win without lifting a finger.

Last Saturday, April 23, Mancao’s CICC arrested three alleged members of XSOX.
