The first day of the local absentee voting for the May 2022 polls was generally peaceful, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said Wednesday, April 27.

"Initially our assessment it was very good. Of course, generally peaceful. No untoward incident was reported to us," he said in an interview.
"I hope on May 9, it will be the same.Peaceful and fast at the same time," added Garcia.
The three-day LAV will be from April 27 to 29.
More than 84,000 individuals have been allowed to vote during the said period which include government officials and employees, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the media who are on duty on May 9.
Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan and Commissioner Aimee Neri were among those who voted yesterday.
The two voted at the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila.
Pangarungan is a registered voter of Marawi City, in Lanao del Sur while Neri is a registered voter of Cagayan de Oro.
Meanwhile, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said those who availed of LAV but did not vote during the said period can no longer vote on May 9.
He also said that a person who missed voting in the LAV as well as in the 2019 polls will become deactivated in 2025.
