The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is not suspending its online precinct finder.

This, amid the call of a poll lawyer to suspend it after receiving complaints from some voters.

"We shouldn't remove the Precinct Finder system. Many have called for its return. Now that it's back, why should we remove it? Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said in an interview Wednesday, April 27.

He believes the precinct finder is a big help to voters.

"The precinct finder is very helpful and the complaints we receive are very small compared to the ones it helped," said Garcia.

The poll official said they are also happy that there is a high interest now with the precinct finder.

"With this interest, we expect that many will vote come Election Day," said Garcia.

He also explained that there are other ways to know one's registration status.

"It's not the only source of information regarding the status of registration of voters. There is the voter information sheet, voters assistance desk, precinct computerized voters list, and the election day computerized voters list," Garcia said.

He also ssured voters that they will get the VIS before the May 9 polls.

Garcia revealed that they have ordered the hiring of emergency workers whose sole purpose is to distribute the VIS.

Republic Act No. 7904 states that the Comelec must provide all registered voters, through registered mail, with a voter information sheet at least 30 days before an election which shall include the voter’s name, address, the precinct and the place where he is registered, and simplified instructions as to the casting of votes.
