4.4-magnitude quake hits Davao Occidental province


BUTUAN CITY – A 4.4-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental province in Southern Mindanao region Wednesday morning, April 27, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 7:00 a.m.

The epicenter was plotted 114 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Island (Municipality of Sarangani), Davao Occidental province.

The tremor had a depth of 68 kms, Phivolcs said.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin, it said.

As of reporting time, the regional office of the Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is still awaiting the report from the Davao Occidental provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) on the situation of the residents in said areas and its infrastructures.

Still no reported damage or casualty as of press time. The state agency is expecting no aftershock.
