DOH probes alleged administration of 2nd Covid-19 boosters to non-immunocompromised individuals

The Department of Health (DOH) said it is now investigating the alleged administration of second boosters to frontline healthcare workers and senior citizens during the first day of the rollout for immunocompromised individuals on Monday, April 25.

The first rollout of the second booster shots is meant for immunocompromised individuals only, as announced earlier by the health department.

The probe was launched by the DOH after receiving reports that a hospital in the National Capital Region (NCR) has also jabbed frontline healthcare workers and elderlies.

The DOH pointed out that the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) is still reviewing evidence for senior citizens and healthcare workers.

The HTAC has only completed recommendations for immunocompromised individuals, the health department said.

Per the DOH guidelines, immunocompromised individuals aged 18 years old and above are “eligible to be given with second Covid-19 booster doses, either homologous or heterologous.”

These individuals are those with immunodeficiency state, HIV, active cancer or malignancy, transplant recipients, undergoing steroid treatment, patients with poor prognosis/bed-ridden patients, and “other conditions of immunodeficiency as certified by a physician.”
