BJMP-NCR holds medical, dental mission in QC Jail

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-National Capital Region (BJMP-NCR) led on Tuesday, April 26, a medical and dental mission in Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD), which served 192 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Medical workers and frontliners from the BJMP-NCR Regional Health Service Division, QCJMD Health Service Unit, and Monte Zion Diagnostic and Medical Center participated in the mission.

According to the QCJMD, 162 PDLs underwent medical checkups while 30 others availed of dental services, including tooth extraction. They also underwent random blood testing through the help of Monte Zion Diagnostic and Medical Center.

Jail residents with illnesses like skin diseases, hypertension, and diabetes were given appropriate prescriptions and medicines, while those with poor eye sight were referred to an ophthalmologist.

Jail Supt. Michelle Bonto, QCJMD warden, said the mission served as a proactive measure to prevent the PDLs’ health conditions from getting worse.

Meanwhile, the QC Health Department continued the vaccinations of the PDLs against Covid-19 and other diseases. The vaccinations in the QCJMD will be held every month.

Jail Chief. Supt. Luisito Munoz, BJMP-NCR regional director, said that the medical and dental mission and the vaccinations were part of the “Todo Serbisyo ng BJMP-NCRO” to ensure the welfare of the PDLs while they are under BJMP’s custody.
