Zamboanga ban on entry of poultry, live birds extended to May 6

ZAMBOANGA CITY - The city government of Zamboanga has extended the ban on the transport and entry of live birds, poultry and non-poultry products from April 15 to May 6.

The ban extension is contained in the Executive Order No. BC-729-2002 which Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar issued in view of reported Avian Influenza cases in the country, particularly in the provinces of North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Davao del Sur.

The public is directed to avoid contact with resident, wild, or migratory birds in their areas and not to consume poultry, ducks, and quails which have died from unknown causes.

Zamboanga City will also regulate the entry of day-old chicks and pullets, table eggs, salted eggs, ready-to-lay pullets, ducks, quails, embryonated eggs and other poultry products and by-products from Luzon and other areas affected by the Avian Influenza virus.

Climaco also ordered the public to report unusual sickness and mortality in poultry birds, ducks and pet birds to the nearest Office of the City Veterinarian field offices.

In an earlier statement, City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola said the ban includes a prohibition against the entry of game fowl coming from areas with cases of Bird Flu.
