As part of its goal to raise youth awareness and shape their policy-making process, the National Youth Commision (NYC) opened the application for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Youth Debate 2022.

The debate, which will be held from June until October 2022, is an initiative of the NYC together with the ASEAN and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS).
“The Asean Youth Debate 2022 aims to simply enhance the momentum in realizing ASEAN’s vision through raising youth awareness, shaping policy-making process and deepening people-to-people connectivity,” said NYC in an advisory.

The Commission said that it will be nominating three debate teams composed of one coach and five debaters per team, as well as one individual to form two mixed national teams.
Meanwhile, applicants must be an 18 to 35-year-old Filipino citizen who is currently residing in the Philippines. Good command of written and spoken English is also a must.
To verify the applicant’s citizenship, Philippine passport or Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-issued birth certificate is also required.
Moreover, the applicant must also be willing to be an active NYC volunteer and must be able to attend and participate in the whole duration of the program virtually.
The Commission likewise tasked interested participants to visit NYC’s website to review the requirements for the said event.
“Applicants are advised to strictly follow the instructions for submission. Deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 28,” it added.
