Mayor Olivarez: School congestion no longer a problem

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said school congestion is no longer a problem in the city with the construction of schools in all 16 barangays.

Olivarez called it "a dream come true" in his nine years as mayor when 45 state-of-the-art campuses were built in the city to solve the problem of school congestion.

He said the city government is already prepared for the opening of face-to face (F2F) classes in the coming school year.

The mayor said the city government used the budget for the Special Education Fund (SEF) in building campuses and annexes to give quality education to the city's children.

Olivarez said that during the pandemic, children's education was badly affected and forced them to shift to online learning.

To help the students and the teachers, the city government provided laptops to all the city’s public school teachers, tablets, and android cellular phones for the students.

The mayor thanked the City Council for the allocation of P600-million financial assistance to more than 110,000 students from elementary and high school.

Assistant School Superintendent Violeta Gonzales reported that two secondary schools and five elementary schools are now conducting hybrid-learning.

The mayor also turned over additional 120 laptops to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the use of teachers and students in preparation for the hybrid-learning this coming school year.

The turnover of laptops was made after the regular virtual flag raising ceremony held at the City Hall quadrangle and hosted by the Parañaque Local School Board DepEd on Monday, April 25.
