Manila's 2nd Covid-19 booster shot rollout to start on April 26

The Manila local government will start administering the second Covid-19 booster shot to immunocompromised individuals aged 18 years old and above on Tuesday, April 26.

The city's Public Information Office (PIO) made the announcement on Monday, April 25.

The booster shots will be administered in 44 health centers, six district hospitals, and four malls in Manila.

The district hospitals include the Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital (JJASGH), Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center, Ospital ng Tondo, and Sta. Ana Hospital.

Immunocompromised individuals who are eligible for the second booster shot are those who have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), active cancer or malignancy, or immunodeficiencies certified by a licensed physician.

Bedridden patients, transplant recipients, and those who are undergoing steroid treatments are also included.

Eligible individuals must present a valid identification card (ID), their vaccination card, and a medical certificate or clearance at the vaccination site.

On Monday, April 25, many local governments all over the country participated in the nationwide second Covid-19 booster shot rollout for immunocompromised adults.

The approved vaccine brands for the booster shot are Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik Light, and Janssen, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The additional booster shot program aims to mitigate the possible effects of the sublineages of the Omicron variant (BA.4 and BA.5).

It is also believed to prevent a potential increase in Covid-19 cases, based on the projections of the DOH and the World Health Organization (WHO), if the public health and safety protocols are discontinued.
