AFP chief boosts morale of troops in southern PH


Gen. Andres Centino, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), rallied the troops in Sarangani over the weekend to continue safeguarding the southernmost part of the country from all forms of illegal activities.

Centino made the instruction when he inspected the military’s Mabila detachment and littoral monitoring station which are located in Balut Island, one of the most remote and southernmost municipalities in the Philippines, on Saturday, April 23.

These facilities serve as early warning and detection for incoming vessels in the country's domain.

“The dedication and unwavering determination of our troops deployed at the southernmost military detachment in our country deserves utmost commendation. They work tirelessly in order to secure peace and development in far-flung communities as well as contribute to protecting the integrity of our national territory,” Centino said.

During his visit, Centino assured the troops that their morale and welfare will be prioritized by the military leadership especially those assigned in remote areas.

Centino was also accompanied by Commodore Carlos Sabarre, commander of the Naval Forces in Eastern Mindanao, when he met local government officials of Balut Island led by Mayor Virginia Cawa.

The AFP chief assured the people of Balut Island that there will be a safe and peaceful conduct of national and local elections in their municipality on May 9.

He also vowed to continue maintaining peace and security in the area by deploying sufficient number of military personnel in the island municipality.
