Around 320 students and out-of-school youth (OSY) started working in different departments of the Pasig City Hall on Monday, April 25, as part of the second batch of beneficiaries under the Special Program of the Employment of Students (SPES).

SPES is a youth-aimed initiative, created by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), to "provide temporary employment to poor but deserving students, out-of-school youth, and dependents of displaced or would-be displaced workers".
Through SPES, young students and OSYs are able to financially assist their families.
The city government of Pasig implements the program by offering livelihood opportunities for disadvantaged young people, giving them chance to work and participate in local government affairs, and equipping them with professional skills to assist them in their future careers.
The second batch of SPES participants will continue the program until May 23, 2022.
The participants attended an orientation during the flag raising ceremony on Monday morning, April 25, led by the Pasig Employment Service Office (PESO).
Applications for this year’s SPES program began on Feb. 16, wherein around 6,000 young people submitted their applications.
A total of 500 applicants were deployed from March 7 to April 4 for the first batch of the program.
Those who were unable to make the cut in the first batch were included in the second batch.
The Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO) said that the remaining individuals who passed their applications on Feb. 16 may be included in the succeeding batches for SPES this year.
The SPES program is usually done during the summer and/or vacation season.
Qualified beneficiaries include out-of-school youth (OSY) who are registered with the city's Social Welfare and Development Office (SWDO).
Beneficiaries may also include poor students whose parents have a net income that does not exceed the regional poverty threshold, and have obtained a passing general weighted average (GWA) from their schools.
They must be aged 15 to 30 years old.
