No Covid case in all BJMP jails since March 27

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has maintained zero record of Covid-19 cases among its personnel and the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) under its custody.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 24, the BJMP said its Directorate for Health Service has not recorded any Covid infection since March 27.

BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral said he hopes that the BJMP manned jails nationwide will maintain zero Covid-19 cases in the next coming months.

He urged all BJMP personnel in the 475 district, city and municipal jails in the country to continue the strict implementation of health protocols to ensure the health and wellness of the PDLs and jail workers.

Iral said they are also continuously exerting efforts to ensure that all PDLs under its care will get vaccinated against the virus.

As of April 23, a total of 126,747 PDLs out of the 130, 972 (96.77 percent) jail population were already inoculated.

Of the 126,747 PDLs vaccinated, 116,895 got their first doses, 112,044 completed their second jabs and 9,852 were inoculated with the single dose vaccine.

A total of 89,433 PDLs or 68.28 percent of the jail population were already injected with their booster shots. (Chito A. Chavez)
