Arellano gave its play-in bid a huge boost following a dominant 70-55 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 97 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Sunday, April 24.

The Chiefs rode a scorching second quarter as Justin Arana, Archie Concepcion, Jordan Sta. Ana and Stefan Steinl all connived in the 20-0 explosion that turned a tight 17-16 affair into a huge 37-16 advantage en route to their third win in eight outings.
The race for the last two play-in spots got even tighter as the Arellano victory forced a four-way deadlock for the fifth spot of the standing with Emilio Aguinaldo College, San Sebastian and Perpetual Help which earlier won against Lyceum.
Arana produced MVP-type numbers of 21 points and 18 rebounds while Raymart Sablan unloaded all of his 12 points in the second half to spoil the comeback attempts from the Generals. Four other players scored with at least eight points for the Chiefs.
“Sobrang saya ko ngayon kasi di pa tapos yung NCAA Season namin and kailangan pa namin magtrabaho mas triple para makuha namin yung play-in spot,” said Arana.
“Kailangan din namin mag ready sa JRU, di namin kailangan mag kumpiyansa kasi bilog ang bola and lahat nagtitrabaho talaga kaya kailangan namin kunin yung trabaho,” he added.
With the General utilizing a 2-3 zone in hopes to contain Arana, Chiefs head coach Cholo Martin inserted Steinl in the game to form a twin tower with their star center. The ploy worked wonders as the presence of the two big men opened up the defense which resulted to the huge run.
Ralph Robin finished with 13 points built on three triples which he unloaded in a personal 9-2 spurt to end the dry spell for the Generals before the first half ended.
The Chiefs next game against Jose Rizal University is deemed crucial to break away from the deadlock as Perpetual holds the quotient advantage in case of tie.
San Sebastian has Letran as its final opponent while EAC and Perpetual will engage in a crucial encounter on the final day of the eliminations.
