Locsin tells Pinoys abroad: Don't believe everything in social media, Viber
As the month-long overseas absentee voting (OAV) for the May 2022 elections continues, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. reminded Filipinos abroad to be more vigilant and not believe everything they see on the Internet.

Locsin made this statement after an overseas Filipino asked Locsin not to "romanticize" what the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has been doing concerning the OAV since the process is not going smoothly for all countries.
"Dear Mr. Secretary, nagkakagulo yung voting sa Italia. Hindi po sa Amerika. Kulang din nga yung mga return stamps ng SF (San Francisco) Consulate (the voting in Italy is not orderly. There are also not enough return stamps at the San Francisco Consulate)!" Twitter user Nurse~Pao said.
"Don't romanticize what DFA has been doing. Ok naman so far pero madami pa ding palpak (It's good so far, but there are still more mishaps)," they continued.
In response to the Tweet, Locsin said the public should not believe everything they see on the Internet.
"Don't believe everything you read on socmed (social media) or get sent by Viber. I have been sent the worst fakes accusing posts of things that never happened, by people the sender doesn't even know," he said.
"The wording is the dead giveaway. The senders are the key," he added.

Locsin likewise defended the DFA, saying any mishap was not their fault.
"Pero Hindi kasalanan ng @dfaoca @DFAPHL; kasalanan ng mga hijos y hijas de gran putas sa iba ng ahensiya. Shet. Mga putang ina iyan (It's the fault of the DFA or the Office of Consular Affairs. It's the fault of those sons of b*tches in other agencies. Those motherf*ckers)," he said.
"We are the best, but this is one of those sh*t things where we have to work with the worst. We will do what we can with them," he added.

The month-long OAV for the May elections started on April 10.
Some of the efforts made to ensure the smooth and orderly OAV was the conduct of mobile voting in Seychelles by the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi.
In New York, the Philippine Consulate General in the Big Apple said that 92 percent of the ballots had already been sent out on Saturday morning, April 23 (Manila time).
"@PHinNewYork is confident it would be able to mail the remaining ballots to kababayan in the US Northeast tomorrow—this despite the delay in the arrival of ballots from Manila and multiple Covid-19 cases among staff," Consul General Elmer Cato said.
