Impact Hub Manila says Comelec not party to its contract with Sofitel for PiliPinas Debates

Impact Hub Manila, the private partner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for its series of debates, said the poll body “is not a party to the contract between Impact Hub Manila and Sofitel.”

Misunderstanding, according to the Impact Hub Manila, led to the postponement of the last leg of the PiliPinas Debates 2022: The Turning Point which was supposed to take place again at Sofitel on April 23 and 24.

“Unfortunately, the initiative between the two private companies encountered some misunderstandings,” Impact Hub Manila said in a statement, pertaining to its dealing with Sofitel.

“While there have been incomplete reports as to the cause of the miscommunication, Impact Hub Manila will refrain from publicly divulging these matters and will endeavor to discuss them with Sofitel and other stakeholders privately,”added.

In its statement released on Saturday, April 23, the company tapped by Comelec thanked the poll body for letting it be its “production partner” for the debates.

It can be recalled that Impact Hub Manila reportedly encountered financial issues with the venue of the debates.

On Friday, April 22, Comelec Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia announced the postponement of the PiliPinas Debates: 2022, saying there are “unforeseen circumstances that’s impossible for the Commission to proceed with the debate by Saturday and Sunday.”

According to Garcia, the presidential and vice-presidential debates will be reset on April 30 and May 1.
