'It's winning time': Lastimosa relishes chance to get back at UP

Adamson star Jerom Lastimosa has proven multiples times that he's a force to be reckoned with at crunch time.

Lastimosa did not disappoint and delivered anew for the Soaring Falcons after nailing a dagger three with 23.3 seconds left against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the second round of the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament.
The Dumaguete native cager, this time, pulled off the heartbreaking clutch play and managed to get back against the Maroons in their first round loss.
It would be recalled that Lastimosa almost drained a game-winning three in Adamson's 73-71 defeat against UP last April 5.
There's a sense of accomplishment for the junior combo guard after extending the Falcons' win streak to three and bolstering their Final Four hopes.
"Super saya namin kasi three straight wins and talagang pinaghandaan namin 'yong UP," said the 24-year-old Lastimosa. "For me, gusto ko talaga makabawi sa UP and 'yon nga, 'yong nangyari sa first round parang iyakin kami palagi.
"Ngayon parang bumawi talaga kami na kami naman 'yong maging masaya. And hopefully etong panalo na 'to tuloy-tuloy na. Sana tuloy-tuloy na 'tong saya na 'to," he added.
With the recent win, Adamson forged a three-way tie at fourth place with National University and Far Eastern University. They all hold a 4-3 record.
Recalling the last play after Adamson coach Nash Racela, the adrenaline came rushing through Lastimosa and instilled a winner's mentality after hearing the words of assistant coach Gilbert Lao.
"It's winning time," Lao said as recalled by Lastimosa, who scored eight of his 13 points in the payoff period including two triples, five rebounds, and four assists.
And Lastimosa was left with no choice but to answer the call of duty.
"Pumasok talaga sa isip ko na 'its winning time' talaga. Wala nang ibang titira kundi ako na talaga," he said.
With at least five seconds remaining on the shot clock, Lastimosa, in isolation against the defense of James Spencer, pedaled back for a stepback three for the win.
Zavier Lucero and CJ Cansino made respective attempts from beyond the arc but missed as Pong Zalvidar and Lastimosa iced the game with a pair of free throws.
