Immunocompromised individuals will be the first to be eligible to receive a second Covid-19 vaccine booster shot once the measure is implemented, said Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III.
“Yung patungkol sa ating pag rollout ng second booster dose ito ay nililimitahan muna natin para doon sa mga individual na immunocompromised (Regarding the second booster dose rollout, we will first limit it to those individuals who are immunocompromised),” said Duque during a public briefing on Friday, April 22.
“Sa ngayon, ang aking inaprubahan batay sa rekomendasyon ng Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) ay yung second booster dose para lamang sa mga immunocompromised (So far, what I have approved based on the recommendation of the Health Technology Assessment Council is that the second booster dose is only for the immunocompromised),” he added.
These people are those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, cancer patients, transplant patients, and individuals taking immunosuppressive medicines, among others, said Duque.
Duque said they are hoping to roll out the second booster shot in this sector by next week as the guidelines are still being finalized. One of the aspects being discussed currently is the vaccination sites.
“Pinag-uusapan yan habang binubuo ang implementing guidelines for the second booster roll out. Ito ba ay sa hospital lang ba gagawin? O ito ba ay kasama ang mga usual vaccination sites na magtuturok ng second booster (That is still being discussed while we are crafting the implementing guidelines for the second booster roll out. Will this only be done in the hospitals? Or will this second booster shot also be available in the current vaccination sites?),” he said.
“Antabayanan nalang natin yung mas detalyadong issuance ng National Vaccination and Operations Center (Let's just wait for the more detailed information from the National Vaccination and Operations Center),” he added.
Senior citizens, healthcare workers
The administration of a second booster shot for healthcare workers and senior citizens is still under review, said the Health chief.
The HTAC is still evaluating evidence and studies from the World Health Organization and the Food and Drug Administration of both the US and United Kingdom with regards to the second booster shot for senior citizens and healthcare workers, said Duque.
“Pagkatapos nila masuri ang mga datos at sabihin na 'okay na, roll out na tayo ng second booster dose for A1 (medical workers) and A2 (senior citizens)' eh gagawin din po natin ‘yan pag nabuo na rin natin ang implementing guidelines (After they analyze the data and give a go-signal of providing a second booster dose for A1 and A2, then we will implement that once the guidelines are ready),” said Duque.
