Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Socorro Inting said on Friday, April 22, that Asian Institute of Management (AIM) for Leni's appeal is needless since the Commission en banc is well-aware of its mandate.

AIM for Leni which is composed of students, alumni, faculty, and administrators of AIM issued an appeal addressed to the Comelec to be non-partisan and to conduct an orderly, peaceful and credible elections on May 9.
In her statement read by Commissioner Aimee Ferolino during a press briefing, Inting said that it is the constitutional mandate of the poll body and all its deputized government agencies to ensure the elections are free, orderly, honest, peaceful and credible.
"As Commissioner of our poll body, I am ever conscious of this mandate. My colleagues in the Commission En Banc are likewise cognizant of this constitutional directive," she said.
"The Appeal of AIM Alumni for Leni calling for Non-Partisanship and for the Holding of Orderly, Peaceful and Credible Elections on May 9, 2022 is therefore unnecessary as it tends to sow distrust on the integrity of the Comelec," she added.
She mentioned that casting "aspersions" on the Comelec as well as its deputized agencies, without sufficient basis, is the last thing that they need now, more so that campaigns are coming to a close.
Inting explained that this "betrays" the honest and tireless efforts of our poll workers who have been sacrificing a lot just to ensure the success of the coming polls.
Worse, she said that this appeal "subtly conditions" the minds of the electorate that the upcoming elections is not credible should Vice President Leni Robredo lose in the presidential race.
"Lest AIM Alumni for Leni forgets, Leni Robredo was proclaimed as Vice-President in the 2016 Elections through a credible process, spearheaded by no less than your Commission on Elections," she added.
Meanwhile, skeptics posting public opinions that the electoral process and the Comelec is rigged have another thing coming.
Comelec Commissioner Rey Bulay issued a warning during the poll body's public briefing against those who have been accusing the poll body of partisanship and cheating ahead of the upcoming May 2022 elections.
"Ako po ay nagwawarning sa inyo (I am warning you) We will not hesitate to call upon the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na ngayong sa panahong ito ay nasa control ng Comelec na patulan at ipahuli at ipakulong kayo, yung manggugulo sa election na ito (which at this time is under Comelec control, to arrest and jail those of you who will be disrupt the elections)," he said.
He added that as a former Manila chief prosecutor and that he will not think twice about filing cases against those who will impede in the elections.
