PH Embassy in Nairobi provides mobile voting facility for Seychelles; overseas voting in LA in full swing

The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi successfully conducted a consular outreach mission and mobile voting for the 2022 elections in Seychelles on April 17, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

In a statement, the DFA said that the Embassy's team provided passport, notarial, and other consular services to Filipinos in Seychelles.

Mobile voting for the 2022 Presidential elections was also made available to qualified Filipino overseas voters.

The Embassy team encouraged the Filipino community to register for its overseas Filipino mapping project.

Seychelles, a 115-Island archipelago in the Indian Ocean, is host to around three hundred Overseas Filipinos who primarily work in the tourism industry or are affiliated with Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd.

Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Seychelles were established in 1987.

Voting in LA

In Los Angeles in California, the DFA said Consul General Edgar Badajos and Mr. Steve Angeles of The Filipino Channel-Balitang Amerika cast their ballot on April 18, signaling that overseas voting which started on April 9 for Philippine Foreign Service Posts, is in full swing.

In an interview, Badajos said that the Consulate General would issue a list of returned-to-sender ballots as some overseas voters no longer reside in their recorded residential address.

He reminded registered overseas voters to carefully read the instructions inside the ballot mailing packets, mainly how to accomplish ballots and mail them back correctly. A ballot will be counted if the Consulate General receives it no later than 4 a.m. on May 9.

The Consulate General is mandated to implement postal voting, wherein ballots are sent out to the registered voters. Each ballot mailing packet contains one official ballot, an official return envelope, a paper seal, and illustrated voting instructions.
