CEBU CITY—A policeman died after he was accidentally hit by his service firearm while responding to an alarm.
The accident happened on Monday morning, April 18, in Barangay Bitoon, Daanbantayan town, northern Cebu.
The fatality was identified as Pat. Ariel Arrabis, 33.
According to Cpl. Christian Vergas of the Daanbantayan Police Station, Arrabis and his colleague, Cpl. Benjamin Villanca, responded to an emergency alarm involving an armed person spotted in a cemetery in Bitoon.
Police said when the police officers arrived in the area where the armed person was supposedly spotted, Arrabis’s service firearm, a 9mm caliber pistol, fell to ground and went off. Arrabis was hit in the chest, police said.
Arrabis was rushed to the town hospital but succumbed to his injury, police said.
