The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday, April 20, shrugged off the junking of the disqualification case against former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and maintained that their focus has always been to win the elections.

Lawyer Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesman, reacted to the remaining disqualification case against Marcos being dismissed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“Mula simula, ang tutok ni VP Leni at ng buong kampanya ay manalo sa eleksyon. Walang nagbago dito (From the start, the focus of VP Leni and the whole campaign is to win the elections. Nothing changed here),” he said in a statement.
In a 10-page ruling, Comelec’s First Division dismissed the last disqualification case against Marcos for lack of merit.
The case stemmed from his 1993 conviction for failure to file income tax returns, with the petitioners arguing it was a crime involving moral turpitude that makes the former lawmaker unqualified to run for office.
The commissioners said they were “not convinced,” citing an earlier Supreme Court ruling, and that the failure to file income tax is not “inherently wrong.”
Marcos is the presidential survey frontrunner with the latest Pulse Asia results in March showing that 56 percent of respondents chose him to be president, while Robredo got 24 percent.
Another survey, however, showed the Vice President catching up.
Truth Watch Philippines, Inc. said Robredo got 32 percent and Marcos, 52 percent.
