A fire broke out at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, April 20, forcing the suspension of the PBA 3x3 Grand Finals and possibly Game 6 of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.

The incident occurred before noon, forcing PBA 3x3 teams and officials to evacuate after smoke coming from the Red Gate was seen during the pool play match between Purefoods and Pioneer.

At least six fire trucks entered the Big Dome premises while about two or three more were waiting outside before fire was declared out. No one was hurt but the league declared that the Grand Finals will be rescheduled on a later date. Fire was declared out shortly after 1 p.m.

The PBA is also waiting for words from fire officials and Araneta if Game 6 between Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Meralco will proceed as scheduled.

Ginebra is looking to secure the crown in the game slated for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
