Go: Law enforcers should verify if destabilization plots in May 2022 polls are true
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Wednesday appealed to law enforcement authorities to verify if reports of a destabilization plot during and after the May 2022 elections are true, saying it is important to heed President Duterte’s call for a fair and peaceful national and local elections next month.
Go said officials in charge of maintaining peace and order during the elections should take the threats seriously, stressing that the country's future is at stake.
“As a legislator, and hindi naman po ako kandidato, I'm calling sa ating awtoridad na siguraduhing monitored n’yo po — kung mayroon mang confirmed o seriousness ‘yung threat na ‘yan ay huwag pong isantabi o isabahala dahil ang nakataya po dito ang kinabukasan... ‘pag pumili tayo ng ating lider, nakataya ‘yung kinabukasan ng ating bayan sa susunod na anim na taon (As a lawmaker, I’m not a candidate, but I’m calling on our authorities to make sure you are monitoring this—if there are confirmed or serious threats, please do not set it aside or shrug it off because our future is at stake. If we are choosing our next leader, the future of our nation in the next six years is at stake),” Go said.
“So, I'm calling all government authorities to find out kung talagang ang threat na ‘yan ay totoo. At kung totoo man ay siguraduhin n’yo pong maayos ang lahat – maging orderly ang ating eleksyon (if the threats are true. And if true, please make sure that everything would be addressed—and that our elections would be orderly),” he reiterated.
On Tuesday, April 19, Duterte reiterated his call for a fair and peaceful national and local elections next month to ensure that the results will reflect the genuine will of the Filipino people.
Also during his Talk to the People Address on Monday, April 19, the President vowed to uphold the law and not allow terrorism or any illegal activity to disrupt the May 9 polls.
Duterte also reiterated that he would not endorse any presidential contender in order to maintain his neutrality.
“We will not countenance or allow any disorder nor intimidation, nor violence. We will remain neutral and we’ll see to it that the true will of the people lalabas sa election na ‘to, (will be revealed),” Duterte had said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos has also denied receiving report of a destabilization plot during and after the elections.
“So far si (Police Major Genera) Val de Leon (head of the PNP Directorate for Operations) has been monitoring the elections. We have not received any major report on that,” said Carlos in a press briefing last Monday, April 18.
