Comelec: Precinct Finder to be available this week

The Precinct Finder of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be available this week, an official of the poll body said on Wednesday, April 20.

“Within this week po ay puwede niyo nang malaman mula sa aming Precinct Finder –sa atin pong website—‘yun pong kung saan kayo naka-rehistro at kung ano po ang polling places niyo (Within this week you may know from our Precinct Finder—in our website—the location where you are registered and your polling places),” Comelec Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia said in a radio interview.

Garcia said they have encountered a small technical problem that’s why the Precinct Finder is still not available.

Recently, the poll body partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in preparation for the upcoming polls. The DICT said it will provide cloud hosting to Comelec’s online services such as Precinct Finder, among others.

“Medyo nagkaroon lang po ng kaunting technical problem, ‘yung DICT po kasi ang partner namin dito. Iyong Comelec lang po ang mag-pro-provide ng datos pero ‘yung program mismo ay ang DICT, nagkaroon lang po nang kaunting technical problem (We have encountered a small technical problem, DICT is our partner in this. The Comelec just provided the data but the program is from DICT, there was just as small technical problem),” the poll commissioner said.

As such, Garcia said that they have ensured that hackers will not be able to access the Precinct Finder. He said that the Comelec does not want the alleged hacking incident in the past to transpire again.

Voters may soon access the Precinct Finder at the poll body’s website ( http://www.comelec.gov.ph).

As not everyone has access to the internet, Garcia said their personnel from local Comelec will provide voters with an information sheet, containing the details of where they will cast their vote.

Garcia noted that Comelec personnel will hand out the information sheets and not politicians or any other entity.
