Anakalusugan Party-list Representative and mayoral aspirant Mike Defensor challenged on Saturday, April 2, incumbent Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte to a debate regarding two issues involving the solon.
“At the start of the local campaign for the coming May 9 elections, in a bid to prop up her own candidacy, Mayor Joy Belmonte attacked me on two issues that she believes would work against me,” Defensor said in a statement on Saturday.
The issues referred by the lawmaker were the decision of the Congress to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise and his team’s distribution of Ivermectin to QC residents at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In the spirit of fair play and to enhance voter awareness, I am inviting Mayor Joy to a debate on the issues that she raised and on other concerns that affect the future of Quezon City,” Defensor said.
Belmonte mentioned the two issues without naming the lawmaker during her speech at Serbisyo sa Bayan Party’s (SBP) kick-off proclamation rally for the local election campaign on March 25.
