Shooting incident vs. indigenous Manobo-Pulangiyon threatens safety, integrity of elections – Karapatan
Karapatan denounced the shooting incident against indigenous Manobo-Pulangiyon leaders and community members on Tuesday, April 19, during their meeting with presidential aspirant Leody de Guzman and senatorial candidates Roy Cabonegro and David D’Angelo.

“This attack was committed in broad daylight it speaks of the brazenness and impunity enjoyed by its perpetrators as well as of other cases of land-grabbing against indigenous communities in Mindanao. It also threatens the safety and integrity of our elections,” said Karapatan in a press statement.
Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay said that the act was not a “flagrant violation” of election gun bans alone – it also aims to threaten and intimidate the indigenous Manobo-Pulangiyon community from “asserting their rights.”
Meanwhile, the group urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to immediately investigate the incident and hold all perpetrators accountable.
The shooting took place in Barangay Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon. Several were reported injured following the incident.
