The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported on Monday night, April 18, that it did not monitor any area under granular lockdown in any part of the country.
“Mr. President, mula po April 10 hanggang April 16, sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ay wala nang naitalang granular lockdown sa buong Pilipinas (from April 10 up to 16, for the first time there were no recorded granular lockdown in the whole Philippines),’’ DILG Sec. Eduardo Año told President Duterte during Monday's Talk to the People.
Last week, Año said six areas were under granular lockdowns with authorities continuing to intensify the implementation of the minimum public health standards (MPHS) to prevent the Covid-19 transmission.
In the same period, Año pointed to the 15.69 percent decrease in the wearing of face mask violations but there was a slight increase in the number of mass gathering infractions in the Alert Level 2 areas.
“Bumaba pa rin po sa no physical distancing (offenses) ng 47.12 percent or 3,002 violations (Physical distancing offenses dropped by 47.12 percent or 3002 violations),’’ he added.
In the same briefing, Año disclosed that the country’s city, municipal and barangay frontliners immediately enforced appropriate measures to implement the house-to-house vaccination campaign at the local level to give Covid-19 shots to the unvaccinated persons specifically the senior citizens.
At present, 750 out of the 1,634 local government units (LGUs) have implemented the house-to-house vaccination campaign as ordered by the President last April 5.
“Sa ngayon po ay kinukuha pa natin ang validation kung ilan po ang nabigyan ng bakuna sa 750 cities at municipalities na ito (Currently we are still gathering the validation report on the number of persons inoculated in these 750 cities and municipalities),’’ Año said.
The DILG chief who vowed to continue with this campaign to boost the country’s fight against the Covid-19 surge appealed to the other LGUs to support the country’s inoculation drive to get the unvaccinated people get the dose.
With regards to the country’s fight against illegal drugs, Año reported that government anti-narcotics authorities conducted 867 operations from April 10 to 16 where more than P150 million worth of shabu and marijuana were confiscated.
Government anti-narcotics operatives nabbed 1,227 individuals with three being killed during the week-long operation while 108 others surrendered to authorities.
On the election campaign-related concerns, Año pointed out that 5,187 Commission on Election (Comelec) checkpoints manned by 39,887 police officers are placed in the whole country.
“Muli po nating hinihingi ang kooperasyon at pang-unawa ng ating mga kababayan sa patuloy na operasyon ng mga election checkpoints na itinayo ng ating PNP (Philippine National Police) kasama ang Armed Forces of the Philippines at ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) (We again ask for the public’s cooperation and understanding in the continuous election checkpoint operations formed by the PNP with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Commission on Election),’’ he noted.
Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10728, Año stressed the full implementation of the gun ban rule nationwide citing the slight rise in the number of firearms and ammunition surrendered and confiscated including the number of violators arrested since this was enforced.
As of April 18, 5,809 firearms were surrendered while 2,536 gun ban violations were committed.
“At sa atin namang mga nakumpiska, mayroong umaabot ng 2,013 firearms, 974 deadly weapons at 10,000 plus ammunitions (There were 2,013 firearms, 974 deadly weapons and more than 10,000 ammunitions seized),’’ the DILG chief added. (Chito A. Chavez)
