The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday, April 19, said it will investigate the reports of shooting both in Bukidnon and Lanao.

"I condemn the use of violence connected to the May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections. This Commission will investigate reports of shooting both in Bukidnon and Lanao," Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan said in a statement.
"While the Comelec is in the process of investigation, we are offering additional security detail to every presidential and vice-presidential candidates upon their request," he added.
On Tuesday, gunshots were fired against the camp of presidential candidate Leody de Guzman during their visit to the Manobo tribe in Quezon, Bukidnon, which injured two individuals.
As for the Municipality of Malabang which witnessed a spate of killings recently, Pangarungan said, it has been declared under Comelec control pursuant to Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns (CBFSC) Resolution No. 1 dated March 25, 2022 together with Tubaran which has a history of election-related violence, both in Lanao Del Sur.
"Because of this, swift measures to prevent further outbreak of violence are already in place," said Pangarungan.
"These incidents of violence have no place in the process of our elections. This is why the Comelec has been more active in pursuing peace covenants and providing decisive action if threats that disturb a peaceful elections arise," he added.
Meanwhile, the poll body started the deployment of official ballots and supplies for the May 2022 polls on Tuesday.
From the Comelec warehouse in Pasig, the ballots and supplies will be brought to the city/municipal treasurer's offices nationwide.
