Power utility giant Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is showcasing clean energy solutions when it powers up the new Dendo Drive station of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) at its Pasay City dealership branch.
The new showroom had been equipped with clean energy ecosystem that includes vehicle-to-home (V2H) chargers that could cater to the needs of electric vehicles (EVs) or plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs).
According to Meralco, the project is a pilot venture with Mitsubihi’s dealership under Peak Motors Philippines in collaboration with Meralco subsidiaries eSakay, Spectrum and MServ.
eSakay is an electric vehicle corporate entity under Meralco while Spectrum is its subsidiary that carries out solar energy installations. MServ is Meralco's electromechanical entity providing energy efficient solutions to clients.
By far, that part of the showroom has been designed as the ‘clean energy house’ exhibiting renewable energy and EV charger solutions that could be patronized by environment-conscious vehicle owners.
“The next generation dealership uses solar panels and vehicle to home (V2H) equipment with bi-directional chargers,” the power firm emphasized.
In particular, it noted that V2H system “enables the charging of electric vehicles (EVs) or plug-in hybrid EVs (PHEVs) at home using solar energy, while also supplying electricity from the EV or PHEV to an entire house or in the case of the Dendo Drive Station, the Mitsubishi branch.”
As explained by Meralco, if the Outlander plug-in hybrid electric vehicle of Mitsubishi will be sold, part of the package will be a conventional charger that will allow the owner to charge the EV in a home socket.
MMPC President and CEO Takeshi Hara, stated that the company’s Dendo Drive station in Pasay City will be a showcase of vehicle electrification in the Philippines, and its project with Meralco will “bring a new kind of value in terms of eco-mobility.”
Additionally, Ferdinand O. Geluz, first vice president and chief commercial officer of Meralco, highlighted that “the Dendo Drive is a testament to the shared commitment of Mitsubishi and the One Meralco Group to promote a new energy ecosystem where consumers can generate, store, and share energy.”
He stressed this project with Mitsubishi adds up to the continued commitment of Meralco “to drive renewable energy solutions as a way forward to augment the capacity of our generators and to support the sustainability endeavors of our customers through decarbonized energy sourcing.”
Electric mobility or the deployment of EVs in the Philippines remains at its struggling phase, but industry movers are now advancing technology deployments even prior to the enforcement of policies and regulations for the nascent EV industry.
