Lesser incidence of crimes recorded in Western Visayas during Holy Week

ILOILO CITY – The commemoration of Holy Week in Western Visayas region was generally peaceful as manifested by a remarkable decrease in criminal incidents during the week.

The Police Regional Office – 6 recorded 158 criminal incidents for this year’s Holy Week which is remarkably lower than the 238 cases registered during last year’s Holy Week.

Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson, said there were factors that caused a significant decrease in the number of crimes committed this year, including an increase in police visibility in the whole region.

This year, 1,700 cops were deployed in strategic locations all over Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod for the Holy Week.

The cops got ample augmentation from other law enforcement agencies and force multipliers.

Aside from the beefing up of police visibility, it should be noted that there was also the impact of the flooding from tropical depression Agaton.

In particular, all 16 towns and the capital of Roxas City in Capiz province were affected. There was also flooding in areas of northern Iloilo province.
