'Let's Vote Pinas' agreement inked by Comelec, SM Supermalls

There will be no mall voting in the May 2022 polls.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo on Monday, April 18, said mall voting was not considered for the upcoming polls.

The Commission on Election (COMELEC)and the SM Supermalls ink an agreement for the Let's Vote Pinas on Monday, April 18, 2022, a vote counting machine demonstration and experience. The program is a joint initiative for the 2022 Philippine election. Those who signed the agreement are Comelec executive director Atty. Bartolome Sinocruz, Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, Commissioner Saidamen Pangarungan, SM President Steven Tan and Bien Mateo; SM Senior Vice President.(Ali Vicoy)

"In 2016, mall voting was considered. There are things to be done before it is approved.

It was not considered for this 2022 elections," he said during the signing of their memorandum of agreement with SM Supermalls for Let's Vote Pinas.

When asked for the reason, Comelec executive director Atty. Bartolome Sinocruz said the legal basis for mall voting is not clear.

In the past, then Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said although there were proposals before to conduct elections at the malls, it was disapproved because of some legal issues.
