BJMP, JCI ink deal to support PDL's paralegal, livelihood needs

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology National Capital Region (BJMP-NCR) and the Junior Chamber International Quezon City (JCI QC) Capitol has entered into a five-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) that provides paralegal and livelihood support to persons deprived of liberty (PDL) under its custody.

Dubbed as as “kAKOsa:3L for PDL” program, BJMP-NCR Regional Director Jail Chief Superintendent Luisito C. Muñoz stressed the important role of civic organizations such as the JCI in promoting access to justice for the vulnerable sectors through paralegal support and provision of other basic needs of PDL.

“We are grateful for the support extended to us by the JCI QC Capitol. In the same manner, we became more inspired to know that the numbers of advocates for PDL continue to grow”, Muñoz said in a speech during a ceremony held on Monday, April 18.

The JCI QC Capitol, represented by its president Rocky Sy and Atty. Patrick Maglinao, manifested their commitment to extend paralegal and livelihood support to PDL in QC jails and other facilities in the region.

BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral also lauded the JCI QC Capitol for its valuable support to the jails in Quezon City.

“With the growing concerns in the management of our facilities, we are thankful that local organizations such as the JCI QC Capitol stepped in to extend support to our PDL,’’ Iral said.

During the MOU signing ceremony, at least 100 PDLs benefitted from the legal consultation activity with hygiene kits distributed to the 664 PDLs of the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory. (Chito A. Chavez)
