Netizens oppose appearance of Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol on TV show
Korean netizens are opposing the appearance of President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol on a popular TV show.
It was earlier announced that Yoon Suk-yeol already taped an episode of the tvN talk show “You Quiz on the Block,” hosted by Yoo Jae-suk of “Running Man” and Jo Se-ho. The episode will air on April 20.

Yoon Suk-yeol was elected as South Korea’s new president in the March 9 elections. He will assume office on May 10.
After Yoon Suk-yeol’s appearance on “You Quiz on the Block,” the TV program’s bulletin board was inundated with thousands of comments from netizens, mostly opposing his appearance and expressing disappointment with the show. tvN has limited access to the bulletin board.
Yoon Suk-yeol has courted controversy over his plan to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs, earning the tag “anti-feminist.”
The ministry is tasked in “planning and coordination of women's policy, and improvement of women's status through the enhancement of women's rights,” “establishment, conciliation, and support for family policy and multicultural family policy,” “fostering welfare and protection of youth” and “prevention of violence against women, children and youth and protection of its victims.”
Netizens posted different messages on the tvN bulletin board, accusing the program of polishing the image of politicians like Yoon Suk-yeol and threatening to boycott “You Quiz on the Block.”
Some of the comments are:
- “Boycott ‘You Quiz.’ I respected the producers... but it's disappointing”
- “Is the program already bowing to the president?”
- “Does the elected president control the media?”
- “I don't want to see Yoon Suk-yeol, I don't even watch the news”
- “Disappointed with Yoo Jae-suk!! I don't want to watch ‘You Quiz’"
- “I oppose Yoon Suk-yeol’s participation in ‘You Quiz’
- “Does tvN use politics?”
“You Quiz on the Block” features people from all walks of life and celebrities. Some of the stars who have appeared on the program include Son Ye-jin and “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae.
Yoon Suk-yeol and his transition committee, in-charge of the transition from the current administration of President Moon Jae-in to Yoon, previously got criticized for the plan to invite K-pop idol group BTS to perform at his inauguration ceremony on May 10.
"We believe it won't be suitable to invite BTS this time," said Park Joo-sun, head of the inauguration preparation committee, Yonhap News reported. "Moreover, with a limited budget for the inauguration ceremony, it may be difficult to invite a global idol star, such as BTS, so we decided we won't be able to invite them this time.”
