Alex Eala crashed out of the W25 Chiang Rai International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament Friday after yielding to Japan’s Erika Sema, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, in Thailand.

The 16-year-old Filipina bet failed to sustain her second-set comeback as Sema regained her composure and eventually clinched the match win.
Prior to the defeat, Eala routed Netherlands’ Indy De Vroome, 6-2, 6-3, and United States’ Amy Zhu, 6-3, 6-1.
Eala and her Japanese partner Shiho Akita also lost in the doubles quarterfinals to Momoko Kobori and Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
They earlier beat local pair Salakthip Ounmuang and Pawinee Ruamrak, 6-2, 6-1.
Eala, who won the first leg of this tournament for her second pro title, is scheduled to compete in three more legs before seeing action in the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam next month.
