The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) monitored more than 33,000 passengers in various ports nationwide on Good Friday, April 15.

Admiral Artemio Abu, PCG Commandant, said there were 19,043 outbound passengers and 14,487 inbound passengers that trooped to the ports to catch sea trips and go to their home provinces in time for the Holy Week.
To ensure a smooth-sailing trip for the passengers, the PCG deployed 2,334 frontline personnel to inspect the situation in 15 PCG districts.
A total of 176 sea vessels and 115 motorbancas were subjected to inspection by the PCG personnel and no untoward incident was monitored so far.
The PCG placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on a heightened alert status from April 8 to 18 to manage the influx of port passengers during the Holy Week.
The status will also cover the length of summer vacation in anticipation of the increase in the number of local tourists who will travel by sea for recreational purposes until May 31.
