No significant rise in passenger arrivals on Maundy Thursday, Immigration says

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported no significant rise in the number of arriving passengers on Maundy Thursday, April 14.

BI port operations chief Carlos Capulong said nationwide total arrivals for Thursday stood at 12,464 similar to the average arrivals of around 12,000 passengers per day for the month of April.

“Prior to the pandemic, there there were high numbers during the Holy Week. This year we saw a rise, but it has not yet reached pre-pandemic level,” he said.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente remained hopeful that the number of international travelers will increase shortly.

The BI chief noted that the numbers have already doubled since the country's borders were opened to fully vaccinated foreign nationals.

"While we are not yet experiencing pre-pandemic figures, we are hopeful that international travel will return as we enter into the new normal,” he added.
