'Broker,' 'Decision to Leave,' 'Hunt' with IU, Lee Jung-jae invited to Cannes Film Festival

Three Korean films have been invited to the 75th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from May 17 to 28.

On April 14, Pierre Lescure and Thierry Frémaux announced the Official Selection for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in Paris.

Movies were selected for Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, Midnight Screenings, Cannes Premiere and Special Screenings.

“Broker” and “Decision to Leave” will be competing for the Palme d'Or, the festival’s highest prize, while “Hunt” is under Midnight Screenings.

“Broker,” directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, stars Song Kang-ho, IU, Bae Doona and Kang Dong-won. The film tells the story of characters revolving around a baby box, where people can leave newborns they cannot raise.

“I was grateful that I learned a lot throughout the spring of last year while filming ‘Broker,’ said IU.

“Korea is very attractive to movies with a film called ‘Broker,’ a road movie of adoption. And we find there again one of the greatest Korean comedians, a member of the jury, Song Kang-ho who is playing in this movie,” said Frémaux during the press conference.

On the other hand, “Decision to Leave” is directed by Park Chan-wook and stars Park Hae-il and Tang Wei.

"It's meaningful to participate in a film festival in the midst of the pandemic. I'll see as many films as possible at Cannes and will give a standing ovation to them longer than any other people there,” said Park Chan-wook, Yonhap News reported.

“Hunt” stars “Squid Game” actor Lee Jung-jae who also directed the film, which also stars Jung Woo-sung, Jeon Hye-jin, Heo Sung-tae and Go Yoon-jung.

"Thank you so much to the Cannes Film Festival. It's an honor to have the premier of my first directorial film at Cannes,” said Lee Jung-jae.
